Two lanes of Interstate 84 in Boise, Idaho were shut down this morning after a small single-engine plane made an emergency landing on the highway.
The plane touched down on the eastbound lanes of I-84, about a mile from the Boise Airport, where it was scheduled to land.
According to the Idaho Statesmen, the plane suffered engine failure because the pilot forgot to switch to his second fuel tank.
Andy Patrick, the owner of Boise-based SP Aircraft told reporters, “He had plenty of fuel in the aircraft. He just made a mistake and forgot to switch fuel tanks. The pilot made an error and wasn’t able to make the runway.”
The pilot, 30-year-old Jon M. Brinkerhoff, was the only occupant on the plane and was not injured.
The I-84 lanes were reopened after two hours, when the plane was finally removed. An investigation is currently underway.
