On Tuesday, Nebraska State Patrol deployed over 30 enforcement officers to carry out surprise inspections on commercial motor vehicles.
Dan Reins of NSP Carrier Enforcement said they were primarily targeting trucks that work locally on construction sites, and don’t run long distances. Reins told local news station, KNOP, that “most of the drivers understand what we are doing and are really supportive of what we do,”
Brakes, lights, tires, and driver’s licenses were checked in the random stops.
Of the 59 trucks inspected, they found 168 violations, but even more alarming was the amount of trucks placed out of service. More than 1 out of every 3 trucks inspected were placed out of service — 21 trucks in total.
