
A large stretch of Interstate 40 between Texas and New Mexico was closed due to severe winter storms that started on Saturday evening are expected to last through the weekend.
The National Weather Service warned of white-out conditions and strong winds. The area is expected to receive up to 16 inches of snow.
170 miles of Interstate 40, between Amarillo, Texas, to Santa Rosa, New Mexico has been closed.
Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo district spokesman Paul Braun commented on the closure, “We have whiteout conditions all over the place and it’s going to continue.”
This closure comes a day after more than 10 tornadoes hit the Dallas area, killing 11 people.

Interstate 40 from Santa Rosa, New Mexico to Amarillo,Texas has been reopened as of Monday morning.
Interstate 40 near Albuquerque, New Mexico remains closed, but is expect to be opened in sections later this morning.
