A truck driver in Kansas had a big scare when his windshield was shattered by a flying hammer this week.

It happened in Trego County, Kansas, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a vehicle in front of the truck ran over the hammer on the road, kicking it into the air and launching it into the semi truck’s windshield.

Trooper Tod Hays of the Kansas Highway Patrol said the truck driver may have been following too closely.

“This is also a good lesson on following too closely. A 3-4 second following distance is recommended for normal dry conditions. You add one second on to that for every adverse condition you encounter,” he said.

“On a positive note, the truck driver just gained an extra hammer and really, who couldn’t always use an extra hammer right? As Monty Python would say, “Always look on the bright side of life!” he added.

No one was injured in the incident.
