
A tractor trailer was involved in a fatal collision with a school bus after swerving to avoid a motorist on a Texas highway on Friday night.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Interstate 20, near Big Spring, Texas.
According to police reports, the semi truck lost control after trying to avoid a black Dodge Challenger that “slammed on its brakes” around mile marker 173. After losing control, the truck crossed the center median onto the westbound lanes.
A school bus that was traveling west collided with the tractor trailer. The bus was carrying 6 high school cheerleaders and two adults. One of the adults was killed in the crash, and four others were injured.
The injured passengers were taken to the University Medical Center in Lubbock. One passenger has been discharged from the hospital, and two remain in critical condition.
Two people inside the semi truck were not injured.
Police are currently searching for the driver of the black Dodge Challenger. Any one with information is asked to call Sergeant Oscar Villarreal with the Department of public safety at 432-498-271.

In a recent update, local news station KTRE has reported the following:
“The driver of the black Dodge Challenger who hit the brakes suddenly has contacted DPS directly. DPS officials tell us they are now working on piecing the puzzle of the investigation together.”
