A truck driver was involved in two separate accidents, within a 5 minute period, on Sunday morning.

The incidents took place on southbound Interstate 85 in Gaston County, North Carolina.

The first crash took place when 26-year-old Junior Santos crashed his SUV into the semi trailer while trying to make a lane switch.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Santos was charged with driving without a license, driving while impaired and unsafe lane change after being taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The truck driver then pulled over to the side of the road with his hazard lights on, and was struck again less than 5 minutes later.

The second crash occurred when 37-year-old Aundrea Parsons collided into the back of the truck while distracted by her cell phone.

“It is believed Ms. Parsons was distracted by her cell phone by trying to make a call at the time of the collision” said a police news release. Gastonia Police added that there were no signs of braking.

Parsons was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver, Samuel Deal of Murphy, North Carolina, was not injured in either incident.
