On Tuesday in Dekalb County, Georgia, a semi truck was driving on the ramp from on I-285 southbound to I-20 eastbound when the load shifted, causing the truck to overturn.

The truck driver, Charles Laney, was headed to South Carolina and was hauling a load of 40,000 pounds of liquid plastic.

The liquid plastic, worth $40,000, spilled onto the interstate.

Laney told WSBTV that he was lucky as the outcome could have been far worse.

He emphasized:

“I’m lucky to be here. I thank God. First thing I thought about it maybe I rolled over on somebody. I was more concerned about that than anything.”

Laney escaped the accident with only a cut on his head.

Crews combated the spilled plastic by piling on dirt. It took several hours to upright the semi truck and tow it from the scene.

Drivers were advised to take an alternate route as traffic was shut down at the I-285 southbound ramp to I-20 east. It has since reopened.
