In Middlebury, Connecticut, a crash between a semi truck and a Toyota Prius slowed traffic to a halt.
Fox 61 reported that the incident occurred on I-84 between exits 16 and 17 on Thursday morning. Middlebury Fire Chief Tony Bruno stated that they received a call at 10:36 a.m.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene extricated the driver from the truck, which apparently rolled over, leaving him trapped in the cab.
Bruno commented:
“We had to cut him out. He had minor injuries.”
The man and woman who were riding in the Prius were able to get out of their vehicle on their own.
Their car was destroyed in the crash.
They were then taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury for treatment of minor injuries.
Several sources reported that the accident was a result of the Prius cutting off the semi truck.
According to CT DOT, the semi truck was loaded with alcohol.
Debris from the crash scattered across the highway.
About 100 gallons of Diesel fuel was spilled. It has since been cleaned up by crews sent by the Department of Environmental Protection.
As of Thursday afternoon, all lanes but one have been reopened.
Connecticut State Police are currently investigating the exact cause of the crash.
