On May 18th, in Walton County, Florida, a semi truck was hit by a train.

According to My Panhandle, the truck driver, 32-year-old Colin Murphy of Valdosta, was hauling limestone and was headed to Wayne Farms Feedmill when he came across the railroad tracks.

Before 8:45 a.m., Murphy reportedly called 911 and the CSX when the bottom of his trailer got stuck on the high side center of the tracks at Koerber Road and State Road 90.

Corey Dobridnia with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office pointed out the tracks’ structure when she told WJHG:

“A lot of these tracks are high built because it is a low area to prevent flooding and things like that.”

Florida Highway Patrol stated that although the train company was notified, the train conductor, 36-year-old Michael Blankship of Pensacola did not get the notification about the incident. He was unable to stop the train in time before colliding with the semi truck stuck on the tracks.

The train slashed open the side of the truck and limestone poured across the tracks.

Dobridnia furthered with a comment about driving safety:

“You gotta know the clearance on your truck and I think in this case it was just a situation where he thought he had some time to get himself out.”

No one was inside the truck at the time of the crash, and no one was injured. No charges have been filed.
