A truck driver died on Friday evening, after hitting a highway guardrail and falling off an overpass.

The incident happened on Interstate 405 in Bothell, Washington.

According to WWLP.com, the truck flipped as it was falling and landed on the its roof, splitting the cab and trailer open.  The driver was fatally injured.

The semi truck was hauling a Costco load, which spilled onto the roadway after the crash.

Washington State Patrol’s Sgt. Keith Leary issued the following response:

“the whole semi-truck just flipped over the right-hand side, upside down, landed between the lanes of northbound and southbound 405. All the contents of that trailer, obviously it came out partially onto 405. And there’s a big space between the two north and southbound lanes so a lot of that material also went down and hit construction trucks underneath 405. So, it’s almost like a multi-layered cake, if you will. I’m told that there’s some couches and some other things that damaged vehicles down there significantly.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
