Houston, Texas was hit by an onslaught of torrential rain and thunderstorms last night. Today, as the storm continues, Houston is covered in a city-wide flood. ABC news reports that the severe flooding has led to nearly 900 emergency rescues of trapped drivers and residents.
Many residents are trapped in their homes.
Schools and businesses are closed this morning and officials urged residents to stay home.
Others tried getting around on foot — waist deep in water.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner asked drivers to stay off the road.
“Do not try to drive through this water. Please stay at home,” Turner said. “Even if you’re home — you feel it will be flooded — you’re not going to help yourself by leaving your house and trying to go some place else.”
