On Wednesday afternoon, one person was killed after a collision sent a semi truck crashing into a suburban home.
The crash occurred along I-394 in Sauk Village, Illinois, near 217th Street and Peterson.
Illinois State Police reported that around 2:20 p.m., a semi truck collided with a sedan on I-394 when the driver of the sedan suddenly changed lanes in front of the semi truck.
Witnesses of the incident stated that the truck attempted to stop.
One witness told NBC Chicago,
“I heard the trucks’ brakes.”
The sedan ended up clipping the semi and then spun out in front of it. Both vehicles then veered off the road, and the semi slammed into the back of a home. The sedan first hit a tree and then was pinned to it by the semi truck.
The car wrapped around a tree and was trapped by the semi.
The 28-year-old female sedan driver from Chicago died as a result. The 68-year-old trucker driver refused medical attention.
The house was vacant and no residents were injured.
Residents say this is the third time a vehicle has crashed into a house in their neighborhood during the past 13 years. They point out that a guardrail is needed for their protection.
One resident stated,
“Something’s gotta happen because this is endangering our community.”
Northbound 394 was closed north of Sauk Trail Road while investigations were underway. It has since reopened.
