A semi truck carrying 7 cars rolled over on I-80 near the Tooele County-Salt Lake County line in Utah on Friday morning. The 51 year old truck driver who was operating the vehicle was unfamiliar with the area and took a sharp turn that caused the truck to capsize.

Utah highway patrol believes that the driver was driving too fast for the area and was unable to make the turn in time. According to a UHP member on the scene, the driver “decided to drive off of the road on the left shoulder, impacted concrete barriers and fishtail and actually impacted the (route) 201 structure and lost one of the vehicles off of the trailer.”

Luckily, the driver was uninjured and was able to climb out of the cab through the windshield. Other drivers were unhurt as well. There was a motorist behind the trailer who hit a car that fell off, but UHP says there were no major injuries in that crash either.

The semi-truck was hauling several larger SUVs, so the cleanup took some time. Eastbound I-80 was closed for over four hours while cleaning crews took care of the mess. The driver is currently being investigated for unsafe practices.
