A car driver is lucky to be alive after a large piece of scrap metal fell off an overturned semi truck and landed on his vehicle.
It happened on Saturday morning in Orange County, Florida. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck lost control while taking an exit ramp from westbound SR 528 onto Interstate 4 Eastbound, and struck a highway guardrail.
The impact caused the rig to overturn, and release a large piece of scrap metal it was hauling. The scrap metal fell off the overpass, onto the roof of a car that was traveling on the road below.
Although the car’s roof was severely damaged, it’s driver, 36-year-old Orlando resident Jesus Armando Escobar, survived with only minor injuries.
Police say if the object landed “a foot in the other direction,” the results could have been much worse.
The driver of the semi truck, 33-year-old Antonio Santiago Wharton, suffered minor injuries when his rig overturned. He received a citation for careless driving.
