A police chase in Kansas ended when a fleeing vehicle crashed head-first into a semi truck on Friday morning.

It happened on US Highway 50 in Reno County, southeast of Hutchinson, Kansas.

According to KAKE News, Newton Police officers were responding to a “major shoplifting” incident at a local Wal Mart when the chase began. Two suspects took off at speeds greater than 100 miles-per-hour and led officers down Highway 50.

The men in the car reportedly attempted to swerve in order to avoid spike strips on the ground near the Highway 50 and Buhler/Haven Rd intersection, when it lost control and slammed head-first into a semi truck.

Two suspects inside the car where killed on impact. Their identities have not been revealed.

Police have not commented on the condition of the truck driver.
