On Wednesday, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, a tractor trailer hauling potatoes spilled its load all over the road.
Officers responded to the call at 11:49 a.m., and arrived at the scene of the incident at the intersection of Halstead Boulevard and Peartree Road. When officers arrived, they came across the semi truck stopped in the road.
According to police, the truck was making a right turn when part of its trailer collapsed. The trailer, which was full of potatoes, caved in.
This caused the trailer to split in half.
Tens of thousands of potatoes were strewn across the roadway, and traffic was brought to a halt.
Officers worked quickly and cleared one lane of traffic for traffic to pass through.
According to WAVY, local residents arrived at the scene and gathered potatoes.
They helped with clean-up while deciding on a side-dish for supper.
Elizabeth City Fire crews cut the already split trailer in half. Police assisted with traffic control for four hours.
The truck was owned by Eldroth Construction out of Conowingo, Maryland. It was driven by Kenneth Eldroth, Jr.
The truck is now out of service due to “metal fatigue.”
No other vehicles were involved. There were no injuries reported. No one was cited as a result of the incident.
