On Friday, a FedEx semi truck plunged into the Trinity River in Dallas after breaking through a guard rail on Interstate 45.

After several hours of searching for the driver, Dallas-Fire Rescue called off the search due to low visibility.

A spokesman for the Dallas Fire-Rescue told reporters, “Because of the darkness and the rain that was coming down, they decided it wasn’t safe enough to do so.”

They continued the search on Saturday morning and found the driver’s lifeless body in the river around noon.

Hazmat cleanup crews were also called to the scene due to a diesel spill. The driver’s name has not been released.

FedEx spokesman, Jim Masilak, issued the following statement, “Our heartfelt thoughts are with those involved in today’s tragic accident in Dallas, Texas. FedEx Ground is cooperating fully with all authorities investigating the accident at this time.”
