The I-75 northbound ramp at I-375 in Detroit will be closed for several days after a tanker truck carrying 9000 gallons of gasoline overturned and caught fire on Sunday.
The tanker driver noticed the fire and was able to make it off interstate, and onto the exit ramp before overturning.
The 36-year-old driver said mechanical problems caused his back tires to lock up, leading to the crash. The driver wasn’t injured, but was charged with careless driving.
MDOT recommends taking the following routes out of downtown Detroit, while the ramp is being worked on.
I-96 west to I-94 east to M-10 north to M-8 to I-75 north
I-94 west can connect to I-75 north; note I-94 east ramp is closed to I-75 north
I-75 north at Mack Avenue
U.S. 12 (Michigan Avenue) for east and west
M-3 (Gratiot Ave.) for northeast
The ramp is expected to be reopned on Friday, May 29th, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
