On Friday morning, in Newman, California, officials arrived at the scene of a semi truck engulfed in flames.
The incident occurred in a residential neighborhood the 1300 block of T Street.
Investigators reported that a man who was suffering domestic issues locked himself inside the cab of a semi truck, lit himself on fire, then purposefully drove the flaming vehicle into a pickup parked in the driveway in front of his home.
The impact of the crash sent the pickup truck barreling through the garage. Three family members were inside the house and escaped without injury.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene said the structure damage to the house was minimal.
The trucks were obliterated in the fire.
According to Westside Connect, the truck driver has been identified as 57-year-old Jaswinder Singh. After the incident, Singh was airlifted to a Fresno burn center. He arrived in critical condition.
Sigh was reportedly in the cab of a company-owned vehicle that he drove.
Lt. Brett Short told media that the incident is being investigated as an attempted murder/suicide case.
Short stated:
“This looks like a couple (who were) potentially going through a divorce, and he decided he was going to commit suicide by setting himself on fire. It appeared he was going to kill himself and his family members in the process.”
Nearby family members who witnessed the scene struggled to open the cab door but were eventually able to pull the man from the burning wreckage.
