In Jacksonville, Florida, a trucking employee was shot and killed when he arrived at work.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Monday at the Old Dominion trucking depot in the 700 block of Scotia Road off Edgewood Avenue near Beaver Street.
Multiple shots were fired during the attack. Sgt. Chuck Ford stated that the victim had just arrived at work and was shot as soon as he got out of his car by an unidentified person. Witnesses reported hearing four to five gunshots. The victim died at the scene.
Police say it is unclear whether the attack was targeted.
Sgt. Ford stated:
“It’s a senseless tragedy. It looks like he was just coming in, going to his regular job, and somebody walks up on him and shoots him.”
Police will release the victim’s identity when the next of kin is notified. Officials report that the victim is a white 40-50 year-old.
News4Jax reported that the victim was an U.S. Army veteran who resides in Nassau County. He had been a manager at the freight company for the past two years.
The suspect was driving a small white car and fled the scene after the incident. Sgt. Ford said that they do not have a description of the suspect.
Detectives interviewed witnesses on Monday morning. Investigators will check surveillance videos from nearby businesses.
