A truck driver won’t be making it home for Thanksgiving, after falling victim to a what police called a highway “prank”.
According to KOAT.com, local teenagers have been placing boulders, construction equipment, and other debris, on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the last several nights.
Truck driver Steve Stukey was traveling on I-40 when another semi truck in front of him hit the debris, scattering it over the road. “He hit a huge crate of boulders, construction equipment,” he said.
One of the boulders struck Stukey’s rig and punctured his fuel tank.
After calling police, he learned the objects were intentionally placed there as a prank and that there have been several victims so far this week. “They said it was these kids that had been doing it the last three nights.” he recalled.
Because of the damage to his rig, Stukey won’t be able to make it home to Alabama to spend Thanksgiving with his family. To make matters worse, Stukey will also have to pay roughly $10,000 to repair the damage to his truck.
“It’s not a joke, it’s serious. You’re causing a lot of damage and a lot of money.” Stukey added.
The teenagers responsible for the dangerous act have not been caught.
