A motorist was killed when he cut off a tanker truck hauling hundreds of gallons of gasoline. It happened on Monday around 11 a.m. near Hwy 98 and U.S. 70 in Valliant, Oklahoma.
According to KFOR, 66-year-old Larry L Nolen was driving northbound on Hwy 98 in a 2013 Chevy pickup truck when it happened. Nolen failed to yield to a tanker truck traveling eastbound on U.S. 70—and pulled right out in front of it.
The pickup truck then collided with the tanker truck. The tanker truck rolled over 1 and ¾ times before landing in a ditch along U.S. 70 and spilling 500 gallons of gasoline.
The tanker truck’s driver and passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Nolen was thrown from his vehicle and died at the scene.
Troopers evacuated the area and detoured traffic off the highway for several hours while cleanup was underway. The Department of Environmental Quality arrived to assess and prevent further damage from the spilled fuel.
