Earlier this week, we reported on the tragic death of a truck driver who was struck by a wrong-way SUV driver.
The trucker, 66-year-old Carroll Trent, was hauling a flammable chemical, which caused the truck to explode on impact — killing him and the 21-year-old SUV driver.
In her mourning, the driver’s daughter, Rachel Trent , published a Facebook update, stating that the wrong-way driver was playing that massively popular mobile game Pokemon Go. Her Facebook post went viral and shared more than 100,000 times in just 3 days.
“The 21 year old who hit my Dad head on this morning was so obsessed with finding these Pokémon that he drove down this wrong side of the interstate colliding with my Dad’s semi & in turn caused his truck to explode,” she wrote.
The allegations were picked up by many news organizations, prompting a response from local police.
In their response the Knoxville police stated that there is no evidence that the driver was playing the video game at the time of the crash.
The actual cause of the crash is still under investigation.
