A man had to be extricated from his vehicle after a tractor trailer overturned on top of it on Monday afternoon.
It happened on an Interstate 696 off-ramp in Warren, Michigan.
According to WXYZ, the truck lost control for unknown reasons and rolled over, landing on top of a Chevy Impala and trapping its driver inside. Rescuers were able to slightly lift the truck off the vehicle and free the man inside using the Jaws of Life. The rescue lasted an hour.
Approximately a dozen firefighters, as well as police, responded to the accident.
After being freed, the man was placed on a gurney and raised his fist as onlookers applauded.
Matt Nichols, the Warren Deputy Police Commissioner, said the driver of the big rig was not hurt.
The Impala driver, a man from Hazel Park, Michigan, is “fine and will recover completely”, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts wrote on Facebook.
Fouts also commended the local fire department for its deed.
A police investigation is underway to determine what caused the semi truck to overturn.
