
A tractor trailer ended up in the Colorado River on Sunday, after crashing through a barrier on Interstate 70. It happened at mile marker 17, west of Fruita. The truck was hauling boxes of Italian Coffee, which spilled into the river.
The Mesa County Sherrif’s Office posted the following update on Facebook:
“Today at about 3:15 p.m. Deputies, State Troopers and Lower Valley Fire responded to a single vehicle crash on I-70 near mile marker 17. A semi-truck crashed through a guardrail and went into the Colorado River. The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The cause of the crash is under investigation.”
The Colorado State Patrol reported that the driver was able to climb out of the truck and was not injured. They also discovered skid marks from the truck starting two miles from where the crash occurred.
One lane in each direction was closed after the accident, but have since reopened. An investigation is underway.
