A Mississippi man was arrested for his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a commercial truck driver earlier this week.

25-year-old Daniel Alex Coy of Gulfport, MS, was identified as the driver of the dark blue Chevrolet Silverado that struck a semi truck while trying to make an illegal pass on the Pearl River bridge, near the Louisiana/Mississippi border, on Tuesday.

The crash caused the semi truck to loose control and strike another tractor trailer, sending it crashing into the river below and killing the driver. Coy then fled the scene in his Chevy pickup truck according to witness testimony.

Earlier today, Coy was identified and taken into custody thanks to a joint investigation by the Louisiana State Police and Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.

He was charged with Negligent Homicide, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Felony Hit and Run.

Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson commented on his capture. “The poor decisions made by a reckless driver have forever changed the lives of the Clark family,” he said. “Whereas the loss of life will never be forgotten, we are grateful to have brought Mr. Coy to justice for his actions.”

The truck driver who died in the crash was identified as 26-year-old Steven Shawn Clark of Theodore, Alabama.
