Two people were involved in a fiery crash after a pickup cut off a semi truck in Augustine, Florida, on Monday night.
The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on the southbound Interstate 95 exit ramp at State Road 16.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that 75-year-old Fred Gray was initially stopped in his pickup truck, along the right shoulder of I-95. After leaving the shoulder, he then crossed multiple lanes of the highway, directly in front of a semi truck in the left-most lane. The 31-year-old truck driver, Bashir Sheikh, was unable to stop in time and collided with the pickup, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
Emergency crew reported explosions coming from the crash site.
According to First Coast News, Gray had to be extricated from the pickup. He was flown to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The truck driver, Basir Shiekh, was hospitalized with severe burns.
Traffic was delayed for nearly 9 hours while crews attended to the scene. All lanes of I-95 were reopened by 6:15 a.m.
