A recent poll held by Overdrive magazine asked drivers what their stance on the EOBR mandate was. Not surprisingly, a majority were against it.
What might come at a surprise, however, is just how high that majority was. An astounding 71% of truck drivers polled claim they would quit the industry all together if the mandate becomes law.
Of course, just because people say they’ll leave doesn’t actually mean they really will. Only time can prove the truth behind their statements. However, Jay Thompson, president of Transportation Business Associates, believes that passing the ELD mandate will cause many driver who were already thinking about retirement to accelerate their plans.
Todd Amen, the president of owner-operator business services firm ATBS, believes that the number of drivers who quit due to the mandate will be much less than expected, and the poll results are nothing more than chatter from “scared and stubborn” older drivers that are stuck in their ways.
