A man opened fire at a Memphis, Tennessee trucking company on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring two others.
It happened at around 1 p.m. at Hammond Transportation located at 2871 Farrisview near Interstate 240 and Lamar Avenue.
The company is owned by the 30-year-old shooter, Charles Hammond.
Craig Chambers, who works at a nearby trucking company B&L Trailer, witnessed the incident. He told reporters that he saw Hammond, who was armed, chase another man out of Hammond Transportation, then open fire.
Chambers explained, “I could see him pulling the trigger.”
Witnesses told police that they heard anywhere from 5 to 10 gunshots.
According to The Commercial Appeal, officers found Michael Osborn, Michael Hansbro and Brett Barnett with gunshot wounds. Osborn was fatally shot in the chest, and Hansbro was injured with a gunshot wound to the face. Osborn was taken to the Regional Medical Center. Barnett was also hit by gunfire but his condition is stable.
WREG reported that officers confirmed that the victims were employees at the business.
After law enforcement had arrived, the victims told officers that the armed Hammond was at his trucking company, accompanied by his mother. Police stated that his mother pointed to where her son and the gun were located. He was arrested by 1:30 p.m.
Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph stated that Charles Hammond was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is being held without bond. He will be back in court on August 4th.
There was no motive listed in the affidavit for the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
