One person was critically injured when a semi truck drove into a house. It happened on Wednesday around 3:45 in Liberty Township, Ohio.

57-year-old truck driver Thomas Traver was driving east on U.S. 36 West when he drifted off the road and smashed into the house. WDTN reported that the driver lost power to his brakes. No one was at home at the time of the accident.

The truck crashed into the back of the house and stopped when it reached the basement.

Traver was able to get out of the house, but his passenger, 39-year-old Teresa Gill, was trapped inside the sleeper of the wrecked semi truck.

20 to 30 deputies and fire fighters and two medic units arrived at the scene to assist.

Firefighters reported that Gill was able to speak but she was in critical condition. Rescuers had to stabilize the structure before attempting to extricate her. She was stuck inside the house for nearly two hours. Assistant Fire Chief Doug Wright explained, “It took a long time because the house was structurally unsound.”

There were no fatalities, but the passenger was taken to a hospital to treat serious injuries. The truck driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

Route 26 was shut down for several hours while crews worked to remove the semi truck from the house.

Crews used a bulldozer to clear the scene.

Engineers were called to access the danger of the structural damage caused to the house. The homeowners were reportedly working on remodeling their home.
