Four semi trucks and two cars were involved in a crash near mile marker 40 on Interstate 64 in Putnam County, West Virginia, this afternoon.
According to WVMetor News, “[One] driver lost control of his rig heading west at about 3:45 p.m. The truck went through the median and slammed into another tractor trailer traveling east causing a chain reaction.”
One of the trucks flipped over a concrete barrier and plummeted down an embankment.
WSAZ reported that firefighters have been working to extinguish the fire that erupted from one of the trucks.
Two passenger cars were reportedly involved in the collision. Putnam EMS reported that five people were taken to a hospital to treat injuries. The truckers were not identified and their conditions were not released.
The westbound lanes of I-64 are currently closed while officials attend to the scene.
An estimated time for the reopening of the highway was not yet available.
