Ohio State Trooper Eric Devers was honored this week for a heroic rescue effort that took place earlier this year, after a semi truck crashed through a guardrail and landed in an embankment 60 feet below.
Devers arrived at the scene of the crash in Piqua, Ohio to find the driver, John Depue, unconscious and still strapped in the driver’s seat of his truck.
“After a short amount of time, the driver’s eyes rolled back into his head; he slumped over and quit breathing” he recalled.
In a video that was posted to Facebook by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, you can hear Trooper Devers pleading with the driver to stay alive as his administered CPR.
“Don’t you die. Don’t you die on me. Come on,” he shouts as he tries to revive the driver.
12 minutes later, Depue began breathing on his own and was transported to a nearby hospital where he made a full recovery.
“In speaking with the family, medical personnel and witnesses at the scene, it is apparent the quick actions of Trooper Devers helped save the driver’s life,” the OSHP wrote on their Facebook post.
Trooper Devers received a Certificate of Recognition this week and thanks to his efforts a truck driver that was nearly lost forever is alive and in good health today.
