
On Tuesday morning in Birmingham, Alabama, a driver operating an ACE Hardware semi truck smashed through a guardrail on northbound I-65.
The truck then plummeted onto University Boulevard below.
Captain Bryan Harrell, with Birmingham Fire & Rescue stated that bad weather conditions and heavy rains may have initiated the wreck.
ABC 33/40 reported that the truck was hauling miscellaneous ACE Hardware items and was carrying 180 gallons of fuel. The accident resulted in a fuel spill.
Clean-up crews began work around 6 a.m. They worked to clear the debris and to upright the truck. Firefighters contained the spilled fuel.
According to Birmingham Police, as of this morning, University Blvd and I-65 in both directions have been closed. Motorists have been urged to used detours to avoid the area.
The truck driver was uninjured in the accident.
