Due to a severe shortage of truck parking around North Bend, Washington, truck drivers often have no choice but to park on the Interstate 90 shoulder and city streets. Now, North Bend’s city council has a proposal to deal with the issue — ban semi trucks completely.
Privately owned Truck Town, with 140 parking spots, is one of the few truck stops between Seattle and the Snoqualmie Pass, and is often filled to capacity.
According to Kiro7.com, severe weather events sometimes cause as much as 300 to 400 trucks to park along the shoulder of I-90, and on local streets in North Bend.
Locals have grown increasingly disturbed by the “noise, traffic, and air pollution” caused by the trucks and have repeatedly brought up the issue with local lawmakers, who recently proposed banning all semi trucks from parking in town.
To make matters worse, the city also wants to prevent new truck stops from being built near town.
The city council meets on April 5th in order to vote on the law. Should it pass, the trucking problem in the area would only get worse.
