A rest stop in upstate-New York that was closed in 2010 has recently reopened due to safety concerns caused by the lack of truck parking.
The truck stop located on Interstate 88 in Otsego County, between the Schenevus and Worcester exits, was reopened on October 30th, after a $1.2 million dollar renovation.
The location was one of six truck stops closed by the New York Department of Transportation back in 2010 in an attempt to save money.
After noticing an increase in traffic accidents involving tractor-trailers, New York State Senator James Seward (R.) was able to secure the funding to reopen the closed parking area.
NYSDOT director Jack Williams commented on the reopening, “Safety is paramount on our highways, and for the abilities not only for the traveling public to stop, stretch their legs and become more alert. And the trucking industry uses this interstate.”
The new location has truck parking, and men and women restrooms, with more upgrades planned for 2016.
