Starting in 2016, all drivers must adhere to a maximum speed limit of 55 mph when no speed limit is posted. The legislation was signed on Monday by Gov. Susana Martinez.
Republican Sen. Pat Woods, of Broadview, claims that the current default limit of 75 mph, makes no sense for the local dirt roads. He says the roads were not designed for high speeds the way that the interstates are, and driving on those roads at that the current allowed speeds presents an unnecessary danger.
The change will take place on January 1st, 2016.
