Paul Newberry was awaiting trail for the murder of 88-year-old Oklahoma rancher Charley Kirk, when he broke out of a Muskogee County jail on Sunday evening with another inmate.
According to FOX-23, the inmates were able to escape after breaking a bullet proof window and removing a metal bar. One of the inmates was arrested near the jail, after suffering an ankle injury. Newberry, however, was able to get away.
The Muskogee County Police assembled a search team, which included 30 officers and two K9s, to locate the escaped prisoner.
Officers caught a break when a truck driver reported that his rig was stolen from the Fairfield Inn Hotel in Muskogee on Tuesday morning. Police were aware that Newberry had experience driving a semi truck.
Authorities were able to track the semi’s location using its on-board GPS, and found Newberry napping inside the stolen rig near Austin, Texas.
