Interstate 78 in Berks County, Pennsylvania, was closed in both directions this morning after multiple tractor trailer crashes.
According to WFMZ.com, overnight freezing rain left the roads extremely slippery, which led to the early morning crashes.
The highway was closed in both direction around 8:30 this morning for approximately four hours.
The westbound lanes have since reopened. On the eastbound side, only one lane has been reopened, causing significant traffic delays.
No one was seriously injured.
Pennslvania Governor Tom Wolf commented on the incident, “I applaud PennDOT and state police for quickly responding to clear the scene, but drivers should avoid I-78 if possible or be prepared for possible delays as the backlog clears.”
