A Houston man was killed in a terrible crash involving a car and tractor-trailer on Wednesday morning.

It happened on FM1960 in northwest Houston, Texas around 4 a.m.

According to police reports, 27-year-old Xavier Sauls was traveling in a Honda Accord at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hours on westbound FM 1960 when he struck a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Walters Road.

The impact of the crash was so severe that Sauls was decapitated and ejected from the vehicle. The top and left side of the car were ripped off the frame.

The truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Officer Dan Drake of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office commented on the incident. “We’ve had a very large numbers of fatalities on nights. Larger numbers than we’re used to seeing. This particular stretch of road is a pretty deadly stretch of road,” he said.

Sauls was a father of two children. Police are investigating if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
