Police in Illinois have announced the results of ‘Operation Sauter’ a special one-day commercial vehicle enforcement blitz.
Operation Sauter was created to honor Trooper James Sauter, who was killed in an accident involving a tractor trailer in 2013. Last week was the fourth year of the annual enforcement blitz.
According to the Illinois State Police, 1437 trucks were inspected during the event, with 624 written warnings issued, 123 citations issued, and 138 trucks placed out of services.
ISP Director Leo Schmitz called the event a success.
“The results of ‘Operation Sauter’ are a reflection of our dedication to the memory of Trooper James Sauter, and our oath to protect Illinois citizens,” he said. “I am proud of the men and women of the ISP who risk their lives each and every day, working hard to protect the motoring public along Illinois highways.”
