Montana Governor Steve Bullock has issued an executive order, temporarily suspending hours-of-service regulations to prevent a shortage of propane and heating oil for its residents.

The order was declared on Wednesday afternoon, after the state declared a state of emergency due to harsh winter weather.

“Montana’s winter weather can pose a serious threat to the livelihood of Montanans who depend on propane and heating oil,” said Bullock. “This Order will ensure the timely and necessary delivery of petroleum products so that Montanans keep warm in their homes and continue to work, even in the harshest of winter conditions.”

According to the Governor’s press release, the HOS suspension is in effect only for “carriers actively involved in transporting propane, heaing oil, and diesel fuel.”

The order also states that no carrier can force a fatigued driver on the road. The HOS suspension is effective immediately and will last through January 27th.
