Fresno, California Firefighters tackled an inferno that sparked after two semi trucks crashed.
It happened Tuesday morning around midnight on the northbound side of Highway 99 near American. ABC 30 reported that a semi truck hauling live turkeys had pulled over on the shoulder after getting a flat tire. Another semi truck, hauling hardware supplies, tried to pass the stopped truck but instead ran into it.
The collision caused a fire that spread to nearby grass.
Brad Simpson from CHP said that the accident comes as a warning.
“This is actually a good reminder why when you do have to break down or you do have a flat tire, if possible, make sure that you get off the freeway because these things can happen and they do happen, more than we like to see.”
The drivers were not injured, but several dozen turkeys were killed in the fire. Traffic was backed up while crews worked at the scene.
