A man who was responsible for a wreck that caused two semi trucks to fall off an overpass in Georgia, received his sentence on Monday — a $500 dollar fine and probation.
Howard Silverstein admitted in court that he failed to maintain his lane on Interstate 285 in Georgia and struck a semi truck as a result. The impact caused the Publix semi truck to strike a tanker truck, knocking them both off the overpass in the September crash.
Both truck drivers were injured as a result of the crash, and the highway was shutdown for hours. Silverstein was not injured.
“[His] Kia Sorrento failed to maintain his lane, came into the lane of the Publix truck, which hit the Publix truck, which caused the Publix truck to also hit the fuel tanker,” said Ron Momon of the Sandy Springs Police Department.
On Monday, Silverstein received his sentence — a ‘hefty’ $500 fine and a year of probation.
In court, he apologized to the victims and said he was happy with his sentence. “I apologize to everyone that was injured. I’m glad it’s over and I got a fair sentence,” he said.
It was his sixth traffic violation in five years.
