A man who attacked semi truck driver in a drunken road rage incident is now in critical condition and hanging on for his life in a West Virginia hospital.
Pennsylvania native Darren Decker was kicked out of a bar in Valley Grove, WV, and drunkenly drove away with a friend, before crashing into a semi truck on Monday.
After hitting the tractor trailer, the passenger, Steven Barchetti, left the vehicle, jumped onto the semi truck, and began attacking the truck driver according to WTOV9 news.
The truck driver closed his door and drove away slowly, unknowingly causing the drunk attacker to fall off the rig and hit his head. Barchetti was laying unconscious on the ground for several minutes, until someone spotted him and called 911.
“He drove off slowly and his door closed, and he thought the man jumped off the truck, but he fell and was unconscious when deputies found him,” said Sheriff Pat Butler.
When deputies asked Decker about the incident he said Barchetti was “a grown man and can take care of himself.” Decker was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana. He was released from jail on bond.
