The northbound lanes of Interstate 35 in Emporia, Kansas were shut down this morning after a collision between two semi trucks that left one driver dead and his rig in ashes.

According to WIBW, 58-year-old truck driver Michael Daniely was driving on I-35 around 2 a.m. when he slowed down for a pedestrian that was walking on the interstate near mile marker 116.

A second truck, driven by 39-year-old Michael Lyden, rear ended Daniely’s truck as he slowed down. The second truck immediately burst into flames, killing the driver inside.

Daniely and the pedestrian did not suffer any injuries. The reason the pedestrian was walking on the interstate has not been revealed. A full investigation is underway.

The highway has since been reopened.
