A man was killed in a head-on crash along Route 30 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on Monday night.
The incident occurred around midnight between Route 259 and the West Main Street exit in Ligonier Township. As reported by KDKA News, the driver of the car was identified as James Fillman, 39, of Ligonier.
Police stated that Fillman had gotten into a dispute with his wife that night, threatened to kill himself and purposefully drove in the wrong direction straight into the tractor trailer. The truck driver tried to swerve to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but the collision could not be avoided.
James Fillman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Galliker’s Dairy Products truck sustained minor injuries but was treated and released.
A large fuel spill resulted from the crash, leaking nearly 80 gallons of diesel onto Route 30. For 5 hours, Route 30 was shut down while hazmat crews cleared the area.
The road has since reopened.
