A man was arrested and is facing several felonies for attempting to steal a semi truck in Arizona.
It started on Friday around 6 a.m. when Deputy Ken Womack from the Greene County Sherriff’s Department received a call about an incident. Upon investigating the scene, the deputy found a Ford Ranger stuck in a ditch on County Road 602. Although no one was around the vehicle, the deputy spotted drug paraphernalia inside. The officer had the car towed from the scene.
At around 9 a.m., police received a call about an attempted tractor trailer theft in the same area. The victim told police that the person who tried to steal his truck got stuck on a hill. Officers returned to the area to search for the suspect. That’s when they saw a man run into the woods, where they found him hiding behind bushes.
According to KAIT 8, 37-year-old Phillip Lea Stacey told officers that he wanted to take the semi for a joy ride after crashing his car. He also informed police that after he had wrecked his car, he took a nap inside a random house before he noticed his car was towed.
His reason for trying to steal the semi truck? He told officers that he took it “because he was bored.”
The man is facing charges of theft of a vehicle; possession of drugs paraphernalia, breaking and entering, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license.
