A man convicted of a robbing a Flying J truck stop at gunpoint was sentenced to life in prison this week.

49-year-old James Dwayne Crowley was found guilty of robbing a Flying J truck stop in New Caney, Texas, after just seven minutes of deliberation by a jury. According to Chron.com, during the 2015 robbery, Crowley fired off one shot that ricocheted and struck an employee of the truck stop.

Investigators used DNA evidence and surveillance cameras to link Crowley to the crime. Investigators says Crowley also used his mobile phone to search for lawyers and news articles about the robbery.

“Crowley has demonstrated his lack of regard for the lives of others by repeatedly committing violent crimes and I believe the judge recognized that the only way to prevent him for endangering anyone else was to sentence him to life in prison,” prosecutor Amy Waddle said in a statement.

Crowley was sentenced to life in prison after the judge learned of his extensive criminal history, which included a 1989 conviction for attempted murder.
