On the morning of April 21, John W. Garner, 41, of Bountiful, Utah, lost his life after he stepped in front of a FedEx truck.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, at around 3 a.m., Garner was driving eastbound on Interstate 80 in a white 2000 Dodge pickup, when he hit a guardrail, went through a median onto oncoming traffic and hit a guardrail on the opposite side.
Garner then reportedly exited his vehicle and stepped in front of a semi-truck which was traveling westbound. He died on impact.
According to Park Record, Garner was going through personal issues after a divorce. He had recently been listed as an endangered or missing person after his mother disclosed his circumstances to law enforcement.
The accident took place near mile marker 169, near Echo Junction. Due to the incident, parts of the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed for several hours.
There were no other vehicles involved. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, and an investigation is ongoing.
