A company in New Jersey was robbed of a shipment of beef, stolen by a man who impersonated a truck driver
The incident occurred earlier this month when the 22,000-pound shipment was taken from Lakeside Refrigerated Services on Oldmans Creek Road in Swedesboro, New Jersey. The load of beef included tenderloin, beef skirt steak, ribeyes and ground beef patties—and was valued at $111,000.
It all happened when a man, claiming to be a truck driver hired to transport the meat to a facility in Marlboro, Maryland showed up at Lakeside—and hauled it all away.
But when the shipment didn’t arrive at its destination, the company phoned the police.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened there. NJ.com reported that in February, over $100,000 worth of lamb and beef was stolen by another fake trucker at Lakeside.
Since then, the company has increased security measures, but it obviously wasn’t enough.
Investigators explained that the truck driver was never asked for identification before leaving with the shipment. Lakeside workers weren’t even able to offer detectives a description of the vehicle or its tag number. Although the “truck driver” was caught on camera, his face was covered by his hat.
